Tanium to develop real-time browser connector for Microsoft Edge for Business
Tanium plans to bring the power of autonomous endpoint management with real-time visibility to web browsers providing a stronger front against cyber-attacks.
Web browsers are a critical part of modern business operations, yet they remain a major security vulnerability. With cyber threats like phishing, malware, and zero-day exploits increasing, organizations face significant risks due to limited visibility into browser activity. Microsoft Edge for Business has announced a new connector framework to make it easier to integrate with third-party security tools to give you browser security on your terms. Tanium is excited to announce the strategic development of the Tanium Security Browser Connector for Microsoft Edge for Business, which will bring deeper insights and enhanced reporting for an enhanced security profile for endpoints.
The Risks of Limited Visibility of Browser Activity
Increased Exposure to Threats
Traditional tools often fail to provide detailed insights into browser activity, leaving gaps that cybercriminals can exploit. Without visibility, detecting malicious behavior early becomes challenging.
Rising Browser-Based Attacks
Attackers target browsers from unsafe sites using many activities, including phishing scams and malware injection. Unpatched browser vulnerabilities further increase the likelihood of a successful breach.
Unmonitored Extensions and Shadow IT
Employees frequently visit unauthorized or unsafe sites and install unapproved browser extensions. Many of these extensions, or tools, request excessive permissions, potentially exposing sensitive company data.
How Tanium Helps Browsers Today
The Tanium platform provides visibility and control of browsers to ensure up-to-date patching and validates configurations against industry best practices. Users can monitor and configure security settings for web browsers. Using Tanium, you can deploy browsers and easily assess, remediate, and validate that your organization is compliant with CIS guidelines.
Building a More Secure Infrastructure
The Tanium Connector extends the power of Tanium to identify and report on user activities. The Tanium Connector will allow Tanium to provide details on activities that include:
- Collection of Browser Data to identify, in real-time, unsafe site visits blocked and browser extensions that have been installed or uninstalled to minimize threats.
- Tracking Logins and Sensitive Data Transfers to see when and which sites are accessed and when content transfers occur.
- Interactive Reports and Alerts to visualize extensions and unsafe sites with alerts across employees or employee groups.
Limited browser visibility creates security blind spots, increasing the risk of cyber threats. By implementing deeper monitoring and enhanced reporting, businesses can strengthen their infrastructure and better defend against evolving threats.
