David Rowland is the retired executive chairman of Accenture, a global professional services company. In addition to chairing the board of directors from September 2019 to September 2021, David was actively involved in the company’s long-term business strategy, representing Accenture with clients around the world and with key external groups. Following a 38-year career, David retired as one of the company’s longest-tenured senior executives.
David held numerous leadership roles during his tenure at Accenture. Before becoming executive chairman in 2019, David was Accenture’s interim CEO and, prior to that, he served as CFO. From 2012 to 2019, he worked alongside former Chairman & CEO Pierre Nanterme, playing an important role in positioning Accenture as the market leader in new, high-growth areas of digital, cloud and security-related services. His leadership was integral to driving record levels of top-line growth and shareholder value during that period, as well as the execution of Accenture’s bold strategy of acquiring more than 100 companies to bolster capability and scale for strategic growth.
David was a member of Accenture’s Global Management Committee for nearly 20 years and was closely involved in evolving Accenture from a partnership to a public company and leading global professional services organization.
David currently serves on the board of Tanium, a technology company, as an independent director and as Audit Committee chair. He is also on the board of Russell Reynolds, a global leadership advisory and search firm. Previously, he served on the board and as Audit Committee chair for Avanade, a joint venture of Accenture and Microsoft, considered one of the world’s most successful joint ventures between two global leaders.
David was recognized among the top CFOs in his sector by Institutional Investor, including Best CFO on the “2016 All-America Executive Team.” As interim CEO of Accenture, he was rated as a top-performing CEO on Glassdoor.
David has served on several civic and charitable boards throughout his career. He is a member of the advisory board, and was previously chair, of the Scheller College of Business at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees for the Georgia Tech Foundation and the Board of Directors for Covenant House Georgia.
David holds a Bachelor of Science degree in management from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
